The rebuilt Grand Forks Herald Building stands as a testament to the city’s resilience following the devastating 1997 flood and fire. Community Contractors, in collaboration with Schoen & Associates Architects, incorporated poignant commemorative features throughout the design. The main entry floor showcases a terrazzo logo with a blue circle symbolizing the floodwaters encircled by 19 red spikes representing the April 1997 fire. Inside, the lobby’s rotunda soars 54 feet high, marking the flood’s crest. Anchoring the corner of North 4th Street, a 97-foot clock tower with a spire memorializes the year of the disaster. The interior features open office spaces across two floors, along with a striking two-story Community Room overlooked by second-floor offices.
